By secondorder and thirdord er p erturbation theory, the interaction rates of intense laser fields at wavelength of 193 nm and 355nm with the conductionband electrons of fused silica are calc ulated. Compared with the linear absorption of the conductionband electron sim ultaneousely absorbing or emitting an acoustic or a longitudinal optical phonon, the linear absorption simultaneousely scattering off a hole and the twophoton absorption are also important in the process of the electrons tr ansferring laser energy to solids.
