TONKS' LAW AND RMS EMITTANCE IN INTENSE PARTICLE BEAMS

The Tonks law of conservation of energy in the process of transport of electron beams is introduced in this paper. In consideration of the radiation reaction on the electrons. the derivative of the beam RMS emittance along the direction of propagation is derived. In terms of the Tonks law, a more generalized interpretation of the emittance is obtained.
