Abstract:
Background With the development of high power microwave combining technology, light miniaturization and precise triggering become the important development direction of high power pulse generator. High-power Marx pulse generator has obvious advantages in light miniaturization. Precise triggering is the next research focus.
Purpose In order to solve the difficulty of Marx pulse generator based on gas switch in synchronization, the photoconductive semiconductor switch(PCSS) type V/n trigger gas switch for trigger of Marx generator is studied in this paper, aiming to realize the trigger delay jitter of the Marx pulse generator less than 2 ns under the condition of repetition frequency.
Methods First of all, the feasibility of precise triggering of Marx pulse generator based on 2 stage of PCSS type V/n gas switch is analyzed theoretically, then circuit simulation and experimental verification are carried out.
Results The circuit simulation results show that the Marx pulse generator based on the two-stage proposed trigger switch can acquire a trigger delay jitter less than 2 ns, which conforms to the theoretic analysis. A four-stage PFL-Marx pulse generator based on 2 stage of PCSS type V/n gas switch is developed. Test result shows that the developed Marx generator has a trigger delay jitter of 1.3 ns at 10Hz/100 pulses.
Conclusion The results show that the PCSS type V/n gas switch can realize a trigger delay jitter of nanosecond range of Marx pulse generator. The research in this paper provided a feasible technical means for the precise trigger and power combination of high power Marx pulse generator.
