Abstract:
Background As one of the most compact output extraction structures for relativistic magnetrons, the multiantenna extraction structure directly outputs low-order modes via several antennas led out from the end face of the anode. This structure enables the overall radial dimension of the relativistic magnetron to be approximately equal to the size of the anode cavity.
Purpose In this paper, the structure is optimized, and a design of branched antennas is proposed.
Methods The transmission characteristics of the structure are analyzed via cold cavity simulation, and the electric field distribution in particle-in-cell simulations is investigated.
Results Under the voltage of 400 kV and a magnetic field of 0.32 T, the simulated output power reaches 685 MW at an operating frequency of 5.86 GHz, with an efficiency of 40.77%.
Conclusions The results indicate that the branched antenna design improves the output performance of the relativistic magnetron.
