Abstract: Although regenerative amplifier is one of the most used preamplifiers, a number of electrooptical elements are necessary for trapping and dumping the weak signal pulse, which limits the output energy. Based on the basic theory, the gain characteristics of the multipass amplifier is analyzed. A fourpass scheme is employed to carry out the multipass experiments which successfully yield 20mJ output energy.
