Abstract:
The quality and intensity of high power laser beamswill be affected vioelntly by many kinds of atmospheric Linear and nonlinear influences which are strongly wavelength dependent when laser beams propagate through the atmosphere. In order to find out the most suitable wavelength or spectral range for high power laser beam propagation, the effects of molecular absorption, molecular scattering, aerosol (include cirrus and rain) attenuation, diffraction, jitter, turbulence and thermal blooming are modeled by means of calculating physics method in this article. The following wave bands are thought to be beneficial for Ground-Based Laser (GBL) to trans port energy systems:0.77-0.80μm.0.85-0.89μm;0.99-1.11μm,1.18-1.29μm.and 1.51-1.74μm.Through analysing the transmittance of some lasers spectra,it was found that DF chemical laser (2471.58-2691.79cm
-1),OI chemical laser (1.315μm),and free electron laser be used as GBL,and the excimer and HF chemical laser can only be chosenas the candidates for space based lasers.
